Jason is dedicated to the success of all Johnston students, and is focused on the following key priorities as a candidate for Johnston Board of Education:
Health
- Advocate for proper safety measures in our schools; including testing, annual clinics, etc.
- Engage more closely with mental health providers, including pursuing additional funding for school psychologists
- Staff education on mental health and behavior health to ensure proper interaction approaches to students and their needs
Equity
- Involve Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging principles in curriculum review
- Utilize previously conducted research to improve equity and anti-racism
- Remove/Restaff School Resource Officers
- Staff education on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and anti-racism
- Provide opportunities at all ages to improve the full child educational experience
Learning
- Ensure curricular review is done with multiple informed parties
- Transparency in the curriculum review process, including documentation of steps taken
- Encourage the incorporation of an online education program
- Improvement in IEP/504 process with more transparency
Progressive
- Engage more strongly with local groups to provide learning opportunities for students
- Regularly connect with state and local officials to advocate for educational needs of the district
- Ensure the ALL staff are properly compensated with a living wage and staff have flexibility and support in their career path
- Provide steps within “Portraits of a Learner” on which the administration is graded
